Bowtech Products Ltd, a global market leader in subsea vision systems, announced that it has donated a £7,000, state-of-the-art camera and light system to aid Police Scotland’s Dive and Marine Unit in Aberdeen, UK; building on a 15 year working relationship.
The new system incorporates Bowtech Products’ latest vision technology, as Police Scotland continues to upgrade its equipment, ensuring it operates using the best quality imaging products available. This is now the fourth system that has been supplied; the first of which was built around the unit’s strict requirements.
The system will assist officers from the Dive and Marine Unit, as they work to determine whether objects found in the sea or rivers are linked to any crimes. The DIVECAM-650C-AL miniature colour camera and LED-G-800-DC light will be used for frame captures and underwater viewing tasks, and will be used with the MCVIS-1 miniature compact video inspection system for topside operation, viewing and recording.
The dangerous and harsh dive environments required a compact system capable of being transported to remote locations and task sites. The high resolution camera will deliver sharp quality images, for both potential evidence gathering and live monitoring to improve diver safety.
Dive Supervisor, Sandy Osborne said: “ This camera and light system is a fantastic asset to the team here in establishing whether any objects that have been lost or thrown into the sea are linked to any on-going investigations.
“The equipment is state-of-the-art and will considerably enhance the unit’s capability in obtaining underwater imagery to an even higher standard than at present.
“It will also continue to help the team establish whether there is any criminality involved and if it is safe for our divers to investigate any discoveries.”
