Ramora UK, one of the UK’s leading Bomb Disposal companies, announces that it has successfully and safely disposed of a mine that had been located close to the Greater Gabbard Windfarm off the coast of Suffolk.
The operation, which took place on 21st April 2013, involved the use of a subsea Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) and was undertaken by a specialist team of maritime bomb disposal experts from Ramora UK. The mine, dating back to World War II, is the fifteenth such item of Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) that the company has dealt with on the Greater Gabbard site.
The Windfarm, which has been fully operational since 2012, is owned jointly by SSE and RWE Npower Renewables and comprises 140 wind turbines with the capacity to generate 500MW of electricity.
