CMA CGM Alexander von Humboldt , the second unit of the world’s largest containership series , was christened yesterday in the Port of Hamburg, Maritime Connector writes.

The twin sister of CMA CGM Marco Polo, built by DSME, started its first voyage series on April 19th from Pusan, South Korea.

The vessel is 396 meters long, 54 meters wide, with a draft of 16 meters and ability to carry some 16,000 shipping containers.

The ship is sailing under the UK flag, and she should frequently call at the Northern German City.

The third ship of the same size, CMA CGM Jules Verne should be christened in the upcoming weeks in the French port of Marseille.

Altough they are the biggest containerships in the world at the moment, they wont keep that superlative title for too long, because Danish competition company Maersk is planning to dedicate an even bigger containership in June with the holding capacity of 18,000 containers.
