THE CMA CGM JULES VERNE, the world’s largest containership (16,000 twenty-foot equivalent units), and sailing under the French flag was officially inaugurated yesterday by French President François Hollande in Marseille, on the 4th of June.

Arrived on the 3rd of June at Marseille for an exceptional call, the CMA CGM JULES VERNE was welcomed by thousands of local people and employees from CMA CGM’s Head Office. Her inauguration was a fitting celebration to mark the 35th anniversary of a Group that was founded in Marseille by Jacques R. Saadé in 1978.

After the CMA CGM MARCO POLO and CMA CGM ALEXANDER VON HUMBOLDT, the CMA CGM JULES VERNE is the third 16,000 teu vessel that has been delivered to the CMA CGM Group. With her 396 m long and 54 m wide, this veritable giant of the seas symbolises the strength of the French leading and world’s third largest container shipping group. In line with the sustainable Group’s sustainable development policy of the Group, the CMA CGM JULES VERNE is equipped with all the latest environmental technologies.

The CMA CGM Jules Verne is deployed on the FAL 1 (French Asia Line), the world’s biggest shipping route, linking Asia to North Europe. The line offers a weekly service with some of the fastest transit times on the market.

From the 5th June, the CMA CGM JULES VERNE, which has already called at Busan, Qingdao, Ningbo, Shanghai, Xiamen, Hong Kong, Chiwan, Yantian, Port Kelang, Suez and Malta, will continue her rotation to the ports of Tangier, Southampton, Hamburg, Bremerhaven, Rotterdam, Zeebrugge, Le Havre, Malta, Suez, Khor Al Fakkan, Jebel Ali and Port Kelang before finishing her journey in Ningbo.

With over 400 vessels, including the world’s three largest containerships, the CMA CGM Group and its 18,000 employees is the preferred partner for French companies exporting the “Made in France” all over the world.
