Seagreen Wind Energy Ltd., which plans to develop two 525 Megawatt (MW) offshore wind farms in Phase 1 of the Firth of Forth Offshore Wind Zone, has submitted an application for the onshore cabling related to this projects, writes Guide and Gazette news portal.

Out of two options, Seagreen Wind Energy has selected a 19km underground cable route from cable landing point in Carnoustie to the substation at Tealing, Dundee.

The company had already submitted a Phase 1 offshore application last year in October for two offshore wind projects located 27km and 38km off Angus coastline.

Richard Escott, head of offshore development at SSE Renewables, said: “It is great to see another very important milestone achieved with the submission of this onshore consent application for phase one.

“As Scotland’s largest renewable energy project the Firth of Forth Zone has the potential to make a significant contribution to meeting Scotland and the UK’s renewable energy targets.”

Graham Mason, from Fluor, commented: “This application comes after a significant amount of environmental study and detailed consultation with the relevant stakeholders who we will continue to work with as the application progresses.”

Seagreen Wind Energy Limited is a 50/50 joint venture partnership between SSE (Scottish and Southern Energy plc) and Fluor Limited, the UK operating arm of Fluor Corporation.

The company combines the extensive renewables development, asset management and operations experience of one of the UK’s leading energy companies, with the offshore project delivery expertise of one of the world’s largest publicly owned engineering, procurement, construction and maintenance services companies.
