Rolls-Royce Plc announced yesterday that it has signed a contract with Detroit Chile SA for the delivery of offshore cranes to four platform supply vessels (PSVs) under construction at Detroit Brasil Ltda. shipyard, in Itajaì, Brazil.
The delivery from Rolls-Royce will include four ship sets of the award winning dual draglink crane – eight cranes in total. Upon completion, the vessels designed by Guido Perla, will enter service on an eight-year contract with the state owned Brazilian oil company Petrobras. Brazilian Starnav Serviços Marìtimos Ltda, a subsidiary of Detroit Chile SA, will be operating the vessels.
The dual draglink crane is optimized for safer and more efficient load handling in harbour and on the ship’s deck while at sea. The cranes allow fast and safer loading, unloading and moving of cargo over the entire length of the main deck.
Ottar Antonsen, General Manager Offshore, Rolls-Royce said: “ We are pleased to be selected by Detroit Chile SA to supply this new and highly innovative PSV crane. A configuration with two cranes provides a safer, highly efficient, redundant and independent load handling. These will be the first offshore vessels which can load and unload the deck using their own equipment. ”
The Rolls-Royce dual draglink crane won “the Innovation Award” at this year’s Offshore Support Journal conference in London in February, and has already been delivered to Farstad Shipping’s Far Solitaire, as well as to a PSV under construction at Keppel Singmarine Brazil SA.
