Samsung Heavy Bags Another Large-Scale Order
Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has revealed today that its Nigerian subsidiary has won a USD 3 billion worth order for the construction of an FPSO (floating production storage and offloading) unit for an unknown customer.
Costa Concordia: Platform No 2 Installed on Giglio Island (Italy)
Platform No 2 of the Parbuckling Project, i.e. rotating the wreck of Costa Concordia into a vertical position, has been installed on the Giglio island, the official site of the Project revealed.
UK: Seajacks Enters Contract for Largest OW Installation Vessel Ever
Seajacks International has entered into a contract with Samsung Heavy Industries to build the world’s largest and most advanced offshore wind farm installation vessel. The vessel has been specifically designed to meet the demands associated with working UK Round 3, Scottish territorial waters and the other North West European markets. Seajacks also has options for the construction of an additional two units.
Samsung Heavy to Build Eighth Drillship for Ensco
Ensco plc has ordered an additional advanced-capability DP3 ultra-deepwater drillship based on the Samsung GF12000 hull design. The vessel, ENSCO DS-10, will be the eighth Samsung DP3 drillship in the Ensco fleet, further extending the benefits of Ensco’s fleet standardization strategy. It will be built at the Samsung Heavy Industries, Co. Ltd. (SHI) shipyard in South Korea, with delivery scheduled for the third quarter of 2015. The agreement includes an option for an additional drillship of the same design.
First Triple-E Vessel Christened (South Korea)
Maersk Line’s newest vessel, the first of the Triple-E series, was named Friday morning in a ceremony at the Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) shipyard in Okpo, South Korea. It bears the name of the late Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller, who passed away in April 2012 at the age of 98.
