Pipeline Engineering, a brand of Circor Energy, has won a multimillion dollar contract with E.ON to supply subsea cable protection for the Humber Gateway Offshore Wind Farm. Pipeline Engineering will supply its patented PEFLEX® subsea cable protection system designed to protect array cables on offshore wind farms.

“The Humber Gateway Project is a significant opportunity for Pipeline Engineering to further progress our expansion into Offshore Wind Energy,” said Andrew Marwood, Commercial Leader. “The cable protection system provides cable protection that is easy to install, and thus, much less costly in comparison to existing market systems. We greatly look forward to continuing to work with E.ON on this major renewable energy project which follows on from our supply of the same system for London Array Offshore Wind Farm Phase 1.”

Construction of E.ON’s £736million Humber Gateway wind farm, which will be built approximately 8km off the Yorkshire Coast, close to the mouth of the Humber Estuary, is underway with completion scheduled for 2015. The wind farm will consist of a 73 turbine array that will generate up to 219MW of electricity, enough energy to power up to 170,000 homes.

The wind farm turbine towers and substations are interconnected via subsea array cables and subsea export cables. These require protecting during deployment and during service life from movement due to wave action and other turbulence across the exposed monopile scour zone. Pipeline Engineering’s Cable Protection System, provides abrasion protection, impact protection, fatigue protection and cable over-bending protection, while also facilitating quicker deployment and reducing installation costs.

Pipeline Engineering will be manufacturing and supplying the system from its purpose built cable protection manufacturing cell in Catterick, North Yorkshire. This production cell was built specifically to service the offshore wind market and incorporates the latest Lean manufacturing processes. All components will be manufactured and supplied during 2013.
