As morning dawned yesterday bright and breezy on the pontoons at Seawork, a Kent company headed for the biggest vessel on the water intent on a purchase. GPS Marine from Chatham signed the contract for the 32m Damen Shoal Buster Tug (berth V30).

MD, John Spencer is busy expanding the marine contracting business and was delighted to conclude a deal in the “right market at the right place”.

Inside the exhibition halls Nick Jeffrey, General Manager of Solent Towage, also signed contracts for two new tug/line handlers from Damen: a 1205 and a 1606. The vessels will be used for Exxon work at the Fawley refinery in Southampton. Solent Towage already operates a number of vessels built by the Dutch shipyard.

Damen Sales Manager Arjen van Elk points out that one of these tugs has lasted over 18 years and clocked up 36,000 hours on the engines.
