Damen Shiprepair Brest (France) returned the Ultra Large Crude Carrier (ULCC) “TI Europe”, presently the largest vessel in the world, to its owners EURONAV (Belgium) after successfully completing a full technical survey and service.
Jos Goris, Managing Director of Damen Shiprepair Brest , says: “We were very pleased with this order from a prestigious company like EURONAV. Damen Shiprepair Brest has not seen a ULCC customer for a technical survey in a very long time. We are delighted that EURONAV placed its trust in us to have the required expertise to handle such a special vessel.”
Mr Goris adds: “ The contract with EURONAV, a world player with very high standards of safety and quality, is further proof of the yard’s ability to differentiate itself from competitors when it comes to efficiency, cost effectiveness and transparency, whereby the safety and quality of our operation remain the number one focus of our management team.”
The sheer size of the vessel represents a considerable challenge in itself, he says, with the shipyard applying more than 46,000 m² of silicon paint. However, the yard can comfortably accommodate such vessels given that its largest dry dock, at 420 x 80 metres, is one of the biggest in Europe.
