Tidal Lagoon (Swansea Bay) plc (TLSB) has launched a new, 3D virtual reality programme showing the proposed tidal energy lagoon in the context of Swansea Bay.

Developed by Swansea-based iCreate in collaboration with design engineers Atkins and master-planners LDA Design, the interactive fly-through takes viewers on a journey of discovery, bringing the proposed lagoon to life in 3D virtual reality. It will form a central part of the formal consultation materials available at exhibitions running from 4 July to 5 August 2013.

Head of Planning for TLSB, Alex Herbert says: “Working with our partners Atkins and LDA Design, Swansea-based iCreate has developed this fantastic addition to our formal consultation tools. The lagoon is shown to scale, along with our latest concepts for supporting development including a visitor and boating centre. This tool will help people to experience and understand the lagoon proposals as accurately as possible, so their feedback can help us to develop a truly world-class facility. All feedback from consultation will be taken into account as we move towards making a planning application later this year. The concepts are exciting but we hope the reality will be far more inspiring.”

With public consultation due to begin on today, Thursday 4 July, the 3D virtual reality programme shows views of the proposed development from anywhere in the Swansea Bay area, in both daylight and darkness, and at high and low tides, and includes information on the amenities that will be provided including walkways, visitor centres and sporting facilities.

Dawn Lyle, Managing Director of iCreate adds: “The tidal lagoon is such a fantastic project and as a local company we are delighted to be involved. Fly-throughs and 3D models are an engaging, user-friendly way of presenting master-plans, and are ideal for providing a reliable and accurate impression of a completed development. We’re impressed with Tidal Lagoon (Swansea Bay) plc’s ambitions for Swansea. The project really is tremendously exciting.”
