Being a part of the RF Ministry of Transport’s delegation, Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) participated in 11-th Annual Exhibition ‘ASEAN Ports and Shipping 2013’ held on 11-12 July in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam under the auspices of the Ministry of Transport of Vietnam.

‘ASEAN Ports and Shipping 2013’ is a major event dedicated to ports, logistics and shipping in the South-East Asia. According to the organizers, this year the event attracted about 80 international companies doing business in the sphere of container shipping as well as joint products and services. Participating in the conference on container port terminals and shipping, organized within the framework of the exhibition, were 30 leading experts in shipping and logistics and about 450 delegates from 30 Asian countries, who represented shipping companies, transportation firms, cargo owners, importers and exporters, shipping agents and freight forwarders, ports, terminals, equipment and service suppliers.

For Russia, the opportunities of extending economic cooperation with the countries of South-East Asia are of strategic importance now. Presently, the region is a prospective market and a vast site for applying Russian technologies in maritime industry including the oil-and-gas sector, shipbuilding and repair as well as transportation of various cargoes by sea.

In connection to this, the long-term RS experience in the sphere of developing safety standards for maritime traffic, technical supervision of ships and offshore structures at all stages of their construction and service life would be very up-to-date for Russian enterprises planning entrance into the market of South-East Asia. A wide network of offices both in Russia and abroad enables service provision by RS in a prompt and qualitative manner worldwide. Nowadays, RS has its representation offices in Vietnam (since 1983) and Singapore, offices in South Korea and China are also at work.

RS is providing a wide range of services to enterprises and organizations of maritime industry. In a number of business lines, RS is in possession of unique expertise and competence. RS has considerable experience of technical supervision of the whole range of site structures and facilities applied for offshore oil-and-gas fields including subsea pipelines as well as of the process of materials and equipment manufacture for such facilities. Besides, the Register stands in cooperation with a wide range of companies engaged in the design, manufacture, testing, transportation and operation of containers. Today, RS exercises technical supervision of general cargo containers, open-top and removable-roof containers, bulk-carriage containers, containers for transportation of explosives and nuclear waste, tank containers for transportation of chemical products, non-refrigerated and refrigerated gases, and offshore containers. Besides, in 2012 RS approved a model of tank container for liquid helium transportation, which was manufactured in Russia for the first time. When working with hi-tech designs, RS pays special attention to ecological safety and environment protection.
