Rodolfo Sancio, Ph.D., P.E., a senior geotechnical engineer and an Associate of the firm based in Texas, will present next month at the Current Topics in Marine Foundation Technologies Seminar in Seattle.

The event, hosted by the Deep Foundations Institute (DFI), will be held August 1-2, 2013, at the Sheraton Seattle, 1400 Sixth Avenue.

Dr. Sancio’s presentation, “A Feasibility Study Evaluating Use of Large Screw Piles for Offshore Wind Tower Foundations as an Alternative to Driven Pile Foundations” , highlights the potential environmental, technical, and economic advantages gained by using large screw piles.

The DFI is an international association of more than 3,300 contractors, engineers, suppliers, academics and owners in the global deep foundations industry. Its multi-disciplinary membership creates a consensus voice and a common vision for continual improvement in the planning, design and construction of deep foundations and excavations. Members promote the advancement of the deep foundations industry through technical committees, educational programs and conferences, publications, research, government relations and outreach.

For the past decade, Dr. Sancio has focused his efforts on onshore and offshore geotechnical engineering projects for the upstream and midstream oil and gas and petrochemical industry. He has recent practical knowledge of theoretical soil mechanics and geotechnical earthquake engineering as well as state-of-the-art analytical techniques for the examination of sands, clays, and silts. He also has assessed the issues related to the safety of offshore pipelines in cold regions; wave induced liquefaction analysis; and pipeline flotation issues.
