Fire Breaks Out on Hercules 265 (USA)

Further to the notice of a well control incident on the jack-up drilling rig Hercules 265, the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement has announced that a fire has broken out on the mentined rig.

The natural gas leaking from the well ignited at 10:50 p.m. CDT July 23, 2013.

A total of 44 workers were evacuated from the rig after it experienced a well control incident in the Gulf of Mexico, 55 miles (85km) off the Louisiana coast.

No one was on board at the time of the ignition and no one was injured.

The drilling rig is owned by Hercules and is currently operating for Walter Oil & Gas Corporation in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico OCS lease block South Timbalier 220.
