China: CIC Orders Five More Containerships

China International Marine Containers’ (CIMC) shipowning subsidiary, CIMC Financial Leasing ordered five 8,800 TEU newbuildings worth $425m from Jiangsu New Times Shipbuilding on July 24. China International Marine Containers’ (CIMC) shipowning subsidiary, CIMC Financial Leasing ordered five 8,800 TEU newbuildings worth $425m from Jiangsu New Times Shipbuilding on July 24.

The delivery of the vessels is scheduled for 2015.

The order is placed under the conditions similar to the previous CIMC’s order placed in June this year. For these, as well as for ships from the previous contract, the company has signed a 204 month-long charter contracts with Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) that include an obligation to buy the vessels after the contracts expire.
