Following a $1.1 million grant from the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) Seacraft Shipyard, LLC, in Amelia will be able operate more efficiently. Namely, the grant will enable Seacraft Shipyard, LLC, to procure a new 400-ton marine travelift, allowing for the shipyard to accommodate and service larger vessels in its waters.
“This grant results from the DOT’s Assistance to Small Shipyards Program awarding funding to shipyards providing essential services to commercial and government ships. The maritime industry continues to play an important role in South Louisiana. Enhancing infrastructure in Amelia’s shipyard, and ones like it, ensure our communities and small businesses maximize efficiency and remain competitive,” Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr., M.D., (R-South Louisiana) said in a statement.
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) assigned $9.46 million to help improve 12 shipyards in 10 states within the framework of Small Shipyard Grant Program. The grants are targeted at enabling shipyards to compete more effectively in the global marketplace.
