Norwegian scientists are exploring new ways to protect seafloor volcanic vents that are rich with new species.
Loki’s Castle hydrothermal vents were discovered on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge between Norway and Greenland in 2008.
The five seafloor vents are home for many species with 20 new found during a research this summer, livescience reports.
According to Norway’s Minister of the Environment and scientists, Loki’s Castle could become an underwater national park.
High temperatures around the vents are attracting lots of species and the scientists are just starting to study the previously unknown animals that live around the vents.
