Germany Installs 1,143 MW of Wind Power in 1st Half of 2013

At today’s joint press conference of the German Wind Energy Association (BWE) and VDMA Power Systems held in Berlin, Deutsche WindGuard presented the current data on the status of wind energy development in Germany.

In the first half of 2013 there were 406 wind turbines built onshore in Germany, with a total capacity of 1,038.07 MW. The total nationwide installed capacity rose to around 32 GW.

In a nationwide comparison, the federal states of Lower Saxony, Rhineland-Palatinate, Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern lead the way with about 50% joint share in the additional construction in terms of performance. Brandenburg follows in the fifth place.

21 new offshore wind turbines were installed at sea in the first half of 2013, with a total output of 105 MW. The cumulative performance until 30th of June2013 amounts to around 385 MW and is spread over 89 wind turbines. Seven offshore projects in the North Sea are currently partially completed or under construction. This represents a volume of 1,714 MW, which will go online in the medium term.

A total of 427 onshore and offshore wind turbines were built in Germany in the first half of this year, with an installed capacity of around 1,143 MW. The total installed capacity of all wind turbines erected in Germany by June 30 2013 amounts to 32,421 MW.

The next statistics for wind energy development in Germany with an overview of the developments for the entire year 2013 will be published at the beginning of 2014.
