As part of the company’s geotechnical department development, Osiris Projects have ordered a Datem 5000 CPT system for delivery in early 2014.
After a number of years’ experience in geotechnical sampling on a subcontractor basis, the company has taken the strategic decision to bring this expertise in-house to complement the company’s core capability of hydrography and marine geophysics.
Osiris Projects have used both the Datem 5000 and the smaller 3000 system for numerous projects around the UK, and are glad to be moving ahead with the Datem unit. The industry-leading system allows up to 20m in push depth with a maximum thrust of up to 3500kg in up to 3000m of water. The system can be mobilised to a variety of vessels depending upon the nature of the project, ranging from the company’s flagship ‘MV Bibby Tethra’ at 27m LOA, to regular charter vessels upwards of 50-70m LOA. Osiris Projects recently deployed the 5000 system from Bibby Tethra for a pre rig move survey for Shell, achieving a push of 7-8m in challenging geology. With DP1 and an 8T A-frame, the vessel is well-suited to multi-disciplined projects involving both survey and sampling activities.
Osiris Projects’ geotechnical capability has recently been strengthened by the appointment of Stuart Tate to Geotechnical Engineering Manager. Stuart benefits almost 20 years’ experience in the industry working globally for clients such as Talisman and Alcatel.
On the Datem CPT order Stuart comments “The new Datem unit forms the first in a number of planned developments aimed at improving our geotechnical capability.
