Lankhorst Ropes has been awarded a contract by Technip to supply Gama 98 polyester deepwater mooring ropes for Anadarko Petroleum Corp.’s Heidelberg Spar platform in the Gulf of Mexico.
The Heidelberg Spar will be moored in 1,620 m (5,310 ft) of water and is designed to produce 80,000 barrels of oil and 2.3 million cubic meters of natural gas per day.
Lankhorst Ropes will supply 20 mooring ropes, each approximately 1,100 m (3,700ft) in length and with 4,200 kips (1,905 mT) of minimum breaking strength (MBL). The rope will be manufactured at Lankhorst Ropes new offshore rope facility in Viana do Castelo, Portugal, for shipment at the end of 2013.

Gama 98 is a polyester rope tether made from high efficiency sub-rope cores laid parallel within an outer braided jacket. Each sub-rope is computer monitored during the manufacturing process to ensure all sub-ropes have equal tension and length. Gama 98 ropes include up to 12 sub-ropes, each sub-rope being a long-lay length, 8×1 construction, which gives a 100% torque free rope. [mappress] Press Release, October 1, 2013
