Colombian Navy Joins CARIS HPD and Bathy DataBASE User Communities

CARIS welcomes Colombia as the newest member of the CARIS HPD and Bathy DataBASE user communities.

The Colombian Navy, Dirección General Marítima (DIMAR), has recently chosen CARIS to deliver and implement a hydrographic and cartographic database to improve workflows and data quality at the Centro de Investigaciones Oceanograficas e Hidrograficas (CIOH) in Cartagena.

The project has several stages, including the configuration of new hardware, the population of the CARIS database technology and data discover through web portals. The CIOH database will be connected to a replica database at DIMAR headquarters in Bogota via virtual connection. This is a unique configuration amongst HPD users in South America. The first components of the project have now been delivered and several weeks of training are about to begin.

CIOH is a well established mapping agency in Latin America with more than 40 years of experience in hydrography, cartography and more recently electronic navigational chart (ENC) production. CARIS is very pleased to have been selected as the provider of technology and services to the Colombian Navy.
