On Friday 4 October, during their recent visit to the Port of Djibouti, EU Naval Force warship ESPS Meteoro conducted a diving exercise with the Djiboutian Navy and Coastguard, organised in cooperation with EUCAP Nestor.

The Djiboutian Forces and EUCAP Nestor team were welcomed on board by the Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Commander Juan Carlos Perez Guerrero.

The Djiboutian divers were given a brief by the Spanish warship’s Diving Officer, covering safety and general aspects of diving operations conducted on board a warship.

After the brief, the Djiboutian and Spanish divers conducted two dives. The first was a general familiarisation dive, with the second one including a hull inspection of Meteoro’s propeller shaft, rudder and propeller blades.

The EU Naval Force is working with EUCAP Nestor as part of the EU’s Comprehensive Approach to the Horn of Africa, aimed at strengthening regional maritime security and capabilities.
