“Specialized in the Impossible!” is the theme of the lustrum symposium of the maritime study association S.G. “William Froude” of Delft University of Technology that will be held on Friday February 21th 2014 in WTC-De Beurs in Rotterdam.
At the symposium, well-known speakers from the maritime industry will present extraordinary projects, innovations and methods. The topics covered include offshore, shipbuilding, financing, shipping management, classification and research & development. The symposium is a unique opportunity for the maritime industry to come together to share visions, ambition and a drink. At the end of the day there is a possibility for an executive diner “in the sky” in the tower of the building.
The Dutch maritime industry is specialized in the development and production of complex ships with unique characteristics. Many internationally well-known ships are designed and even (partially) constructed on Dutch soil. In production the Netherlands are also competing on the world top. Dredgers with high-tech machinery, ice-going ships and coasters with extremely low emissions are amongst the ships produced. Another field of expertise in The Netherlands is the R&D side of shipbuilding. This resulted in for instance the Axe Bow and, more recently, the application of air lubrication on inland ships. These developments and the nature of the Dutch fleet mean we can definitely say the Netherlands are “Specialized in the impossible”.
