This week GDF Suez E&P Norge’s Deputy Managing Director, Geir Pettersen, participated at the NOC conference in Stavanger, where he spoke about the company’s future strategic focus areas on the Norwegian continental shelf.

GDF SUEZ E&P Norge is the operator of the Gjøa field and has in the past year chaired a forum for all operators in the area, aiming to seek future production solutions for several discoveries in the Gjøa area.

“This is the first time five operators sit down to discuss common solutions for an entire area even before a solution is decided upon. GDF SUEZ has taken the lead in this work which has been very fruitful in terms of increased area insight. Cooperation is important for optimal utilization of reserves for the benefit of the larger community,” said Geir Pettersen.

The company also has a stated strategy to the North, with five operatorships in the Barents Sea and the next operated well in the beginning of February 2014; Byrkje in PL 607.

“Ever since the company was established in Norway we have been in Snøhvit. Since then we have been proactive in this area and in addition to several operatorships and partnerships in the Barents Sea, we have acquired seismic data from the NPD of the Lofoten/Vesterålen, Barents South East and Jan Mayen area. In case of a discovery in the Barents Sea, we are ready to take responsibility for the whole process to the development and production of a field,” said Pettersen.

In addition to these important strategic focus areas, GDF SUEZ is partner in one of the largest ongoing development projects in the North Sea; Gudrun. A project that looks to be delivered on time, below budget and with production scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2014.

Pettersen was asked about the future of the Njord platform that currently has production stoppage due to a need for reinforcements in the platform structure.

“A final conclusion to what solution will be chosen to consolidate the platform on the Njord field has not yet been made . However, I believe that the field and the area is viable for many years to come – especially after the discovery of Snilehorn this November,” said Geir Pettersen, Deputy Managing Director in GDF SUEZ E&P Norge.
