The Brazilian government is conducting a study on the exploration tempo for deepwater pre-salt development in order to be able to map the process and anticipate and meet the needs from various players, including that for subsea equipment, Marco Press news agency reports.

Numerous foreign specialists in deepwater equipment manufacture have recognized the significant pre-salt potential of Brazil and are bringing their plants there.

The trend is seen as a positive breakthrough as it enables local workforce to attain necessary skills and knowledge, the lack of which impedes greater local technological advances.

The study will lay the groundwork for the Brazilian government to focus on local development of technologies and services for the deepwater pre-salt players and thus become less dependent on import.

The country has begun the manufacture of ROVs and pipe pigging solutions, nevertheless the production is still at the grass root level and requires considerable investment to be competitive on an international scale.
