From 13 December 2013 to 12 January 2014 the multipurpose research vessel “Poseidon” was at the outfitting bridge of the Lindenau Werft GmbH for overhauling works.

Owner of the multipurpose research vessel is the federal state of Schleswig-Holstein whereas the ship is operated by the GEOMAR Helmholtz-Centre in Kiel.

Lindenau obtained the order for the works by the shipping company Briese Schiffahrts GmbH & Co. KG, department research shipping, on 6 November 2013. The fleet of Briese presently consists of 130 multi purpose and heavy cargo ships with a deadweight of between 2,500 and 37,300 t. Due to the high ice-class (Finnish/Swedish 1A), outfitted with heavy load cranes of up to 700 t, as well as the large cargo spaces and intermediate decks, the ships can be operated in nearly all areas of shipping.

The sailing schedule in 2013 included destinations like the Atlantic Ocean, the Azores, the Norwegian Sea or the Mediterranean among others.
