Deltamarin strengthens its position in the offshore oil and gas industry by signing a contract with Bumi Armada, for the basic design of a floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit.

In November 2013, the Malaysia-based international offshore oilfield services provider, Bumi Armada, announced that they have secured a contract to supply the unit to operate in the oil company EnQuest’s Kraken field, which is located in an area with challenging environmental conditions in the UK sector of the North Sea.

Deltamarin had earlier provided Bumi Armada with technical support for the conversion of an existing oil tanker into an FPSO in the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) phase. The FEED phase included development of a robust FPSO design for the harsh North Sea environment that fulfils the UK rules and regulations in all aspects. The purpose was to ensure safe and environmentally sound conversion and operation as well as a design based on cost effective solutions.

Deltamarin’s present scope of work covers the further development of the FEED phase material into a class approved full basic package including naval architecture, structural and strength analysis, steel outfitting, marine/utility and HVAC, accommodation, HSE and electric & instrumentation. “ This contract further strengthens Deltamarin’s position as a recognized offshore oil & gas engineering contractor for owners and operators, delivering safe and reliable vessel designs with high integrity for the harshest offshore environments”, says Mr Rami Hirsimäki, Director, Oil & Gas at Deltamarin.

The turret-moored FPSO will have a storage capacity of 600,000 barrels. Main dimensions of the vessel are 285.41 m in length overall and 50 m in breadth.

The total contract value of Deltamarin’s basic design work, to be carried out over an estimated period of six months, is around 3.6M €.
