EMGS will shortly commence acquisition of a 3D multi-client Electromagnetic survey called Daybreak, which covers approximately 1850 km2 in the Alaminos Canyon area, southern US Gulf Mexico.
The survey will acquire both DHI resistivity data as well as provide deeper structural imaging data to be integrated with and improve sub-salt seismic imaging in the region.
“The Daybreak project is the first phase in a planned multiphase, multi-client program in the Alaminos Canyon and southern US Gulf of Mexico for EMGS. It builds on and extends EMGS’ extensive acquisition and integration efforts in the Perdido trend in northern offshore Mexican waters”, says David Hicks, President, Western Hemisphere EMGS.
The EM data will aid oil and gas exploration companies in assessing acreage for the upcoming western Gulf of Mexico lease round this fall.
The survey, which will be done using the vessel EM Leader, has a planned duration of approximately 3 months, with possible extensions subject to further industry interest. The new EM data will be processed by EMGS and be available to clients before the upcoming Western GOM lease sale, fall of 2014.
The first two months of the survey is fully supported by industry funding.
