Trelleborg’s offshore operation has been awarded its first order for drill riser buoyancy modules (DRBM) and riser protection by engineering, procurement, construction and installation contractor, Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) in Korea.

For Trelleborg, a major supplier of offshore buoyancy equipment to a large proportion of key contractors globally, the business partnership with HHI is a significant milestone, as it now boasts contracts for DRBM with all four major contractors in the Korean market.

Mark Angus, President within the offshore operation of Trelleborg Offshore and Construction in the US, said: “This latest contract with HHI makes Trelleborg the only buoyancy supplier to have a business partnership with the four top contractors in Korea. We believe that this achievement is down to our approach to innovation and long-standing engineering expertise. We’ve also implemented strategic changes to manufacturing operations locally and have placed a representative in the area, as part of an ongoing commitment to better serving our global customer base through local presence.”

In order to reduce a drilling riser’s net weight in water, and ensure that the structure and drilling vessel are supported, Trelleborg offers a range of DRBMs, fitted around the length of the riser pipe, improving the riser’s buoyancy and protecting it from service damage.
