CWind, a leading provider of services to the offshore wind industry, has announced that it has won a contract to support CT Offshore in the installation of 63 of the 161 inter-array cables at the 576MW Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm off the North Wales coast.

CWind’s role involves sending a team to the Netherlands to perform both an OTDR fibre and an insulation resistance test on the cable at load-on. During the installation, CWind tower teams will pre-rig towers prior to the arrival of the installation vessel to speed up installation times and pull-in the cables at both ends.

Colin Urquhart, Operations Director of CWind commented on the contract win: “Over the last few years we have provided cable pulling and repair support at several UK offshore wind farms, including Barrow, Greater Gabbard, Lincs, Ormonde, Thanet, Walney 1 and West of Duddon Sands. Our experience with array, export and PCC cables as well as all current cable protection systems and installation methodologies enables us to arrive on site ready with the appropriate kit and proven techniques. We are pleased to be able to now support the installation at Gwynt y Môr.”

CT Offshore A/S’s Head of Project, Rune Kaltoft, said : “As the pre-rigging and pull-in operations are of great importance to the overall installation process, it was obvious for us to make use of the extended knowledge and experience built up between our two companies during our successful co-operation at the West of Duddon Sands OWF.”

CWind is a leading offshore wind industry service provider, working on construction and operations and maintenance projects. CWind has a proven track record of delivering cost-effective, fuel efficient vessels, proven project solutions, highly experienced turbine technicians and fully accredited training services. CWind regularly has over 200 technicians offshore as well as a growing list of international clients. It is inspected to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001.
