Geometrics, Inc., a provider of geophysical data acquisition equipment, today announced that NCS SubSea, a provider of marine navigation and geoscience services, has purchased a P-Cable 3D ultra-high-resolution seismic acquisition system.

The P-Cable was chosen by NCS SubSea as the ideal technology for their SAFE-BAND project in the Gulf of Mexico. The primary objective of the SAFE-BAND multi-client project is to image safety-related geohazards, such as shallow gas, faults, and shallow-water flows, on a regional scale at unprecedented resolution. In addition, the SAFE-BAND data will provide excellent illumination of seafloor geomorphology, paleobathymetric features, fluid migration features, and shallow producing horizons. These data will deliver a new level of informational detail for drilling and development planners, and also provide additional information for exploration teams. NCS SubSea’s partners in the SAFE-BAND venture are Geotrace and Spec Partners.

“It is our conviction that this technique, and the subsequent data generated, will unambiguously improve geoscientists’ ability to accurately identify, delineate and characterize geohazards in the Gulf of Mexico,” said Dr. Brian Brookshire, VP – Applied Sciences, NCS SubSea.

“We are very pleased to see the P-Cable gaining traction in the commercial oil and gas market. We have always believed that identification and delineation of marine geohazards can be vastly improved using the P-Cable technology, reducing to the greatest possible degree the risk of geohazard-related accidents that threaten not only the environment, but human lives and livelihoods,” said Craig Lippus, VP – Seismic Division, Geometrics.
