STX Marine has worked closely with Eastern Shipbuilding Group (ESG) and other partners of ESG’s team over the past 18 months to produce a unique design for US Coast Guard’s Offshore Patrol Cutter (OPC) program.
As one of the three selected shipyards, ESG will compete to win the contract to build up to 11 OPCs.
The members of the ESG team include Northrop Grumman Systems Corporation, Quantic Engineering and Logistics Corporation, and MAN.
Eastern Shipbuilding will receive almost $22 million over the next 16 months to fund the Preliminary & Contract Design phase, which will see further development of STX Marine’s design. STX Marine will continue to play a central role in the design development during this phase.
At the end of the Preliminary & Contract Design phase, ESG and the other two bidders will enter a second competitive tender to win the Detailed Design and Construction contract.
