Mechanical engineering group, EnerMech, has opened a new base in Mexico and has already secured several offshore Process, Pipeline & Umbilical contracts for major clients.
Latin American energy sector veteran, Jason Reynaud , is overseeing a major expansion which includes recruiting staff and establishing infrastructure, with an investment of up to $4 million (£2.4 million) in new equipment by the oil and gas services specialist.
The operation in Villahermosa extends to 8,500 sq metres of office, warehouse and yard storage and EnerMech expects to have up to 20 staff in-country by the end of 2014.
Jason Reynaud has extensive experience in the Latin American oil and gas market, and has held senior posts with Weatherford, Valkyrie Commissioning Services and BJ Services during his 14 years in Mexico.
He said: “Operators and service companies have been very receptive to our setting up here and the seriousness with which we are going about our business. They are less keen on companies that just come in and poke around without putting any skin in the game. They like the fact we are investing in infrastructure and creating a permanent presence and not just hanging around hoping to snare a few contracts.
“We have made a very encouraging start by securing several PPU contract awards and have successfully executed a number of field projects, but there is no EnerMech business line which is not applicable to the Mexican energy market and we are looking to quickly establish our reputation for valves, cranes and lifting and training services.
“It is a developing market with a vast amount of untapped resources in the deepwater sector and when offshore production really kicks off we will be well placed to offer our integrated services.”
EnerMech Mexico will be able to call on significant resources from its well-established Houston operation which is engaged in a range of onshore and offshore contracts in the Gulf of Mexico.
