Leading subsea equipment specialist, Ashtead Technology, has begun 2014 with an order for nearly £3 million worth of 6G acoustic positioning technology from Sonardyne International Ltd.
Announced on the first day of the Oceanology International 2014 exhibition in London, this order follows a record 12 months of 6G investment by the Aberdeen-based company with a total spend of almost £6 million. The equipment ordered includes, Compatt 6, GyroCompatt 6, ROVNav 6, Scout and Ranger 2 USBL systems and WSM 6 transponders.
Sonardyne’s Ranger 2 and Scout USBL positioning systems are designed for wide-ranging construction survey applications from ROV navigation to subsea structure installation. Their versatility combined with ease of use and reliability means that they are always in high demand in the offshore rental market. The inventory of Compatt 6 transponders ordered by Ashtead is being configured with a mix of Sound Velocity, Digiquartz and inclinometer sensors so that they are suitable for as many subsea applications as possible, including spoolpiece metrology.
