The Lagos State Government has closed down eight illegal dredging sites in Ikorodu axis of the State.
They said that 16 illegal dredgers met on some of the sites were arrested and taken into custody. The Ministry has persistently warned against illegal dredging and has promised stiffer penalties against illegal dredging operators in accordance with extant laws.
Mr Adesegun Oniru from the Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development, said that the state government recently engaged in an aggressive campaign to sensitise the public on the dangers of dredging on Lagos waters without obtaining proper permit and operating in unauthorised sites and waterways.
