Moray Council has been granted an extension to the deadline for repairs to the damaged seawall at Lossiemouth.
The Scottish Government agreed to fund half of the £450,000 estimated cost of a permanent repair to the structure, which was breached by heavy seas during stormy weather in December 2012.
However, ministers stipulated that the money had to be spent by the end of the current financial year.
The contract for the repair was awarded before Christmas but work was delayed because of high tides and a heavy swell and there was concern that the March 31 deadline would not be met.
Council leader Allan Wright and Lossiemouth councillor John Cowe, who chairs the council’s economic development and infrastructure services committee, wrote a joint letter to Paul Wheelhouse, the minister for environment and climate change, seeking an extension to the deadline.
