Just nine months after the start of construction, Trianel, a German utility company, has installed 25 of 40 turbines at the Borkum West offshore wind farm.

In spite of the strong winds from hurricanes “Christian” and “Xavier”, considerable progress has been made on this 200MW wind farm with 75 percent of array cables also completed.

Klaus Horstick, Managing Director of Trianel explained: “The expected better weather conditions in the coming months will have a positive impact on the construction speed.”

MPI jack-up vessel Adventure has been hired for the job of installing the total of 40 AREVA M5000 wind turbines.

Based on the current plans, the first phase of Borkum West will be commissioned this summer. According to TenneT, the grid operator, the trial operation of the offshore substation Dolwin alpha should start after Easter.
