Statoil has received consent to use the Songa Trym semi-submersible drilling rig for permanent well plugging on the Glitne field, in the Norwegian North Sea.

Glitne is an abandoned oil field in blocks 15/5 and 15/6 in the North Sea, approximately 40 km north-west of Sleipner Øst. Water depth at the site is 111 metres.

The water depth in the area is about 110 metres.

Discovered in 1995, the Glitne find was delineated with a further well two years later. Work on production drilling and completion began in October 2000.

The field was shut down permanently on 24 February 2013. Petrojarl 1 FPSO (floating production, storage and offloading vessel) left the field Sunday 28.04.2013.

April 29, 2013 marked the formal decommissioning of the Glitne field and the termination of the Teekay production contract.
