The search area for the missing flight MH370 has been refocused today after AMSA received updated information from the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) about the possible aircraft location.
The new search area is approximately 319,000 square kilometers and around 1,850 kilometers west of Perth.
The new information is based on the radar data before the contact with the aircraft was lost.
The data indicated that the aircraft was traveling faster than previously estimated, resulting in increased fuel usage and reducing the possible distance the aircraft traveled south into the Indian Ocean.
HMAS Success, along with five Chinese ships and ten aircraft, is relocating to the new search area.
A US towed pinger locator and Bluefin-21 Autonomous Underwater Vehicle have also arrived in Perth to assist with location and recovery of the black box.
The depth of the water in the search area is between 2000 and 4000 meters.
