Norwegian Energy Company ASA has announced that the drilling of exploration well 6608/10-16 on the Verdande prospect in license PL484 in the Norwegian Sea has started.

The main objective is to find hydrocarbons in sandstones of Jurassic age. The well is being drilled with the drilling rig Bredford Dolphin and is likely to take 68 – 81 days.

Bredford Dolphin is a third-generation semi-submersible drilling rig of the Aker H-3 type. The rig was completed in 1976. Bredford Dolphin is owned by Fred Olsen ASA and operated by Fred Olsen’s subsidiary Dolphin AS (Dolphin). The company’s head office is in Stavanger. The rig is registered in Singapore, with DNV as the classification society.

To remind, Noreco received the consent to use the Bredford Dolphin semi-submersible drilling rig at the well in the Norwegian Sea in January 2014.

Noreco Norway AS has a 30 percent interest in the license, and is the operator. Partners are Explora Petroleum AS (30 %), Dana Petroleum Norway AS (30 %) and E.ON E&P Norge AS (10 %).
