Finland’s marine equipment specialist Wärtsilä inaugurated its new electrical & automation test centre in Stord, Norway on 9 April. The new facility is one of the largest test centres in Europe dedicated specifically to electrical and automation systems for marine and offshore applications.
The facilities were inaugurated by Wärtsilä’s President & CEO Björn Rosengren together with Liv Kari Eskeland , the Mayor of Stord.
Wärtsilä works continuously to develop solutions that meet both current and future demands for efficiency and reduced costs. Wärtsilä’s Electrical and Automation business line has a long history in pioneering and developing sustainable and environmentally sound solutions for marine customers. With the new testing and training facilities in Stord, Wärtsilä can carry out full-scale testing and verification of existing and new electrical & automation solutions. The centre will also help further enhance Wärtsilä’s position as a front runner in product and application development in this field.

On the day of the inauguration, a customer conference was held to discuss sustainable shipping and offshore operations. Among the speakers was Mr Tord Lien, Norway’s Minister of Petroleum and Energy, who in his speech gave his government’s perspective on future maritime and offshore operations.
