EDF Energy has opened its Teesside offshore wind farm located 1.5km off the North East coast at Redcar.

The plaque was unveiled today by EDF Chairman, Henri Proglio, and Energy Minister, Michael Fallon.

“These projects show our commitment to investing in low carbon generation in the UK,” said Proglio .

The wind farm consists of 27 Siemens 2.3MW wind turbine generators which can produce enough electricity to power 40,000 homes.

Besides Teesside offshore wind farm, EDF is also opening a new power station at West Burton.

EDF Energy CEO Vincent de Rivaz commented: “These 2 new investments have created many jobs + will develop skills crucial to supporting our infrastructure.”

This is the first wind farm fully owned and constructed by EDF Group.

Michael Fallon said: “Opening 2 new energy projects today is proof that UK is strong focus for new energy investment and no.1 for offshore wind.”
