Work is currently taking place at North Shore Beach, Llandudno, to help shore up sea defences following this winter’s severe storms.

These defences have been in place since 2000 and this work is taking place to bring them back up to their design standard; a total of 30,000m³ of beach material is being delivered to reinstate the beach levels.

Failure to complete this work would leave approximately 4,500 properties at much greater risk to coastal flooding.

The storms in December and early January caused significant infrastructure damage and coastal erosion at Llanfairfechan, Conwy Morfa, Deganwy, Llandudno, Penrhyn Bay, Old Colwyn, Llanddulas and Kinmel Bay.

The Conwy Council’s engineers inspected the sea defences and carried out post storm beach surveys along the county’s coastline. The cost of repairing and replenishing Conwy’s sea defences was estimated to be in excess of £5m.
