President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom yesterday inaugurated the Baa Eydhafushi land reclamation project.
Highlighting that the land reclamation project was the ‘rebirth’ of Eydhafushi Island, the President advised the people to use the new land effectively.
President underscored that developmental aspirations can be achieved by utilizing the available resources in the Maldives and by attracting foreign investors to the Maldives.
Background
A contract signing ceremony for reclamation of six islands was held in February at the Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure of Republic of Maldives.
The ceremony was attended by Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, Area Director of Boskalis International Mr. Jaap Viersma, Meedhoo MP Ahmed Shiyam, Kudahuvadhoo MP Ahmed Amir and Senior officials from the Ministry and Boskalis International.
Under the agreement reclamation works of the four Islands, Baa Eydhafushi, Kaafu Thulusdhoo, Dhaalu Meedhoo and Dhaalu Kudahuvadhoo, will be carried out by the contractor, Boskalis International.
