The compressor module M11 for the Troll A platform in the Norwegian North Sea has left Aibel’s yard in Laem Chabang, Thailand.
The compressor module will first be shipped to Haugesund to have a crane installed on board. After that the M11 will go to the Statoil-operated Troll field.
Early in April, celebrating the completion of the works on the module, Aibel’s managing director Jim Ryan said “The Troll M11 module is by far the most complex module delivered by Aibel Thailand. It puts the company in a new league when it comes to delivering large topsides to the Norwegian continental shelf.”
The new compressors will make it possible to produce gas from the Troll field until the year 2063. The compressors will be powered by electricity from shore, and the platform will get a new power cable.
The new compressors are necessary because of reservoir pressure decreases as the gas is extracted. They ensure that the Troll gas can be transported into the Kollsnes processing plant. The gas is then forwarded to the continent.
