The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Wilmington District, will soon undertake a massive dredging scheme.

This project will consist of maintenance dredging of the Wilmington Harbor federal navigation channel reaches including the Anchorage Basin, Between Channel, Upper Brunswick Channel, Lower Brunswick Channel, 32-ft Turning Basin, Engineer Repair Yard Boat Basin and the North Carolina State Ports Authority berth areas.

According to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the work will require a hydraulic cutterhead suction dredger.

Approximately 1,500,000 cubic yards of material will be dredged from the mentioned spots and placed at the Government furnished disposal location – the Eagle Island Cell No. 2 upland diked disposal area.

The environmental window for dredging is 1 August 2014 through 31 January 2015.

This project will cost between $5 mln and $10 mln, and the solicitation will be available on or about 19 May 2014.
