Global experts in smart technology and intelligent energy solutions gathered at SPE Intelligent Energy 2014 to discuss the flow of new ideas, processes and technologies that will form the foundation of future smart achievements in the digital oilfield.

Under the theme ‘Aspirations and Accomplishments’, the programme provoked vibrant debate enabled by panel discussions, special sessions and interactive Q&As. Delegates considered the growing importance of digital energy in increasing asset value while improving health, safety and environmental performance.

More than 1,800 visitors from 35 countries including more than 500 conference delegates attended the leading digital energy conference and exhibition which was held in Utrecht, the Netherlands from 1-3 April 2014. Over the three days, 80 technical papers covered topics including technology, integrated operations, leadership, cyber-security and big data.

New and developing technologies, services and expertise were showcased by more than 40 exhibitors including Baker Hughes, BP, Epsis, Honeywell, IBM, Petroleum Experts, Saudi Aramco, Stepchange Global and Weatherford. Products and services on display covered innovations in areas including drilling and completions, data and information management, production and reservoir dynamics.

Co-chair Steve Roberts , Vice President of the Field of the Future® Technology Flagship at BP said: “SPE Intelligent Energy 2014 represented an opportunity to check-in with colleagues and peer companies on the upstream journey towards applying smart, autonomous digital technologies to our key work progresses and operations. The conference heard about continued delivery of value through early adopter examples and recognised that some of the accomplishments over the past decade have now become embedded as part of normal working practice.”

Egbert Imomoh , 2013 President of SPE (Society of Petroleum Engineers) said: “T here is so much that we can learn from events such as SPE Intelligent Energy and I was extremely impressed by the technical content, networking and discussions displayed at this year’s event. This area of the oil and gas industry still has a long way to go and the learnings at these events are vital for so many areas of our business. I am sure that adoption of the integrated operations shown at events like this will affirm our continued progress in the industry.”
