The Kleven group delivered a strong financial performance in 2013, with an operating profit of NOK 172 million.

‘An operating profit of NOK 172 million is a solid result in the current market situation,’ said Ståle Rasmussen, CEO of Kleven . Turnover in 2013 was NOK 4.2 billion, a record high for the company.

Kleven’s two shipyards – Myklebust Verft in Gursken and Kleven Verft in Ulsteinvik – produced a total of six new vessels in 2013, with a combined contract value of approximately NOK 3 billion. In addition, Myklebust Verft has carried out a number of substantial reconstruction and service projects.

All six new vessels were built for Norwegian owners. Among the vessels were the first seismic vessel ever built by the Kleven group. The group now have 12 vessels on the yards’ orderbooks, with a total value of around NOK 7.5 billion.

‘We have made comprehensive investments in new production halls and automated and robotized production lines, in order to bring a larger part of the shipbuilding process back to Norway, hence ensuring improved control and reduced risk. We expect to see positive effects of these investments in the near future,’ Ståle Rasmussen said.

Kleven’s growing workforce is now set to share in the success of the firm, with profit-related bonuses due to be paid out. Staff numbers at the business have climbed from 518 in 2012 to 770 at the end of 2013.
