Dredging of shallow rivers in Dagupan City will now proceed following the arrival of a state-of-the-art brand new dredging machine from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on May 2.

Mayor Belen T. Fernandez met with officials from the Bureau of Equipment of the DPWH led by Acting Director III Noel Ilao , and they discussed about the technical aspects of the machine. They also conducted ocular inspection to identify heavily-silted areas of the river.

“ The machine is owned by DPWH and it was assigned here in Dagupan to help the LGU in its dredging operations,” Ilao said.

He added that the machine could operate at least eight hours per day, and it is capable of recovering from the river 100 cubic meters of silt per hour. Personnel of the City Engineer’s Office were earlier trained by the DPWH to operate the dredging machine.
