In April 2014, Dredge Technology Corporation (DTC) and the Training Institute for Dredging (TID) successfully organised the second US-based cutter suction dredger (CSD) simulator training.

This year’s two-week training program took place in Houston, Texas, following the highly appreciated first sessions held in April 2013.

The four training sessions were attended by mixed groups of participants from dredging and construction contractors, such as Manson Construction, Grupo Hycsa, Great Lakes Dredge & Dock, Weeks Marine, Norfolk Dredging and the Colorado School of Mines.

Participants praised the program’s comprehensive set-up, combining coverage of dredging theory with practical exercises using the dredger simulator. Such an approach strengthens the overall understanding of the subject matter and supports proper application in the field.

Furthermore, the participants appreciated the open dialogues among and between trainers and trainees, and eagerly took advantage of the opportunity to suggest, discuss and practice dredging scenarios. They particularly welcomed the diverse nature of the attending groups, including both operators and superintendents, which allowed those present to exchange views, best practices and experiences.
